50 minute therapy session with a trained and registered child, adolescent and family therapist

Hi, I’m Rebecca. Welcome to Haven: Child, Adolescent & Family Therapy. Thanks for stopping by!

Has life been a lot for your family lately? I think we can all collectively agree that these past few years have been a whirlwind. Everyone is struggling in their own way. If you and your family have been trying to find a way to keep going, you’ve come to the right place.

I am an energetic, creative and playful therapist who your child can feel comfortable to be themselves around. As a parent of two little ones, I know how hard parenting can be, as well as how hard it is to be our children in this ever-changing world. It’s a lot, and everyone wants to tell us how to do it! Which is why I am here to reassure you and your kids that you are not alone in this journey.

Therapy does not have to be just sitting in conversation. At Haven, here’s what you can expect: I work hard to create a safe, welcoming, youth-oriented environment where emotions and hardships can be discussed at ease. Kids are most comfortable and at ease when they are engaged in something that comes naturally to them: play! They won’t need to worry about “knowing what to say”, or “how to bring it up”, because I will be prepared to help them settle in while engaging in some activities of their interest. By focusing on your child’s strengths, I empower them to make healthy choices, and better understand their emotions using age-appropriate methods.

Concerned your child or teen will not want to play? That’s okay too. Oftentimes the playfulness of teens comes through in authentic conversation about their interests and the happenings of their lives with a person who does not pass judgment. Let me be that person for you and your kids. I look forward to hearing from you and yours.

Until then,

Rebecca

What Rebecca Has to Offer:

After completing my Bachelor of Arts at the University of Waterloo, I went on to further pursue my education and training in the field of Social Work. During my Bachelor of Social Work placement I was introduced to the concept of play-based therapy which ignited a fire in my heart for this work. Since then, and over the course of the past 15 years, it has become my mission to support the emotions of children through elements of play. From 2016-2017 I completed all three levels of foundational training with the Canadian Association for Play Therapy.

My professional experiences have evolved over the years by working with children and their families within schools, hospitals, not-for-profit agencies, residential treatment, and child welfare. Through these experiences I’ve gained sound knowledge and understanding of our mental health system, and in 2013 I obtained my Master of Social Work (MSW) from Wilfrid Laurier University.

I am confident that my combination of professional repertoire and personal hardship allows my clients to feel seen, heard, understood and supported. I am someone who your kids will feel comfortable with and want to see again.
